Recordings

HYBRID SONGBIRD reflects Ava’s own surprising nature with its mix of bluesy guitar, folk, poignant ballads, and classic showtunes. Though most of the Musical Theater vocals are accompanied on piano there is one Musical Theater song, “Words She Doesn’t Say” and one Movie song, “Baltimore Oriole” arranged and played on guitar by Ava.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT ON HYBRID SONGBIRD

There are lots of people who make a project happen. The names on the credits are "hands-on" participants. The others who have helped bring me to this point cannot go unmentioned.

Bud Dashiell [Bud & Travis], now deceased, a unique guitarist/vocalist, old world cabaret performer in the Brel tradition, was my most beloved guitar teacher for four years. One song, one voice, one guitar on stage would never be the same to me after the years with him.
Visit the site dedicated to one of my early influences.

Edward Sayegh, a very knowledgeable voice teacher and pianist heard me singing in a piano bar and there followed three years of training and five years of assisting his teaching studio.

Frank Sinatra was generous to me and many others with scholarships. I've collected and loved his recordings since I was a kid. He wasn't cool then to my generation but he's always been the top pop singer to me.

Jerry Herman changed one word "dress" to "suit" and this stroke made me the first female singer to record "I Won't Send Roses," to his knowledge. Now that's some magic-one word.

Keith Herrman said yes to "Words She Doesn't Say," in his musical co-written with Barry Harman.

Alf Clausen, thank you for your insights on "The Legacy." People should know that the guy who scores the music for "The Simpsons" TV show has such charming sensitivity.

Kendra Davis, a singer/guitarist and longtime supporter is the "honorary president" of my fan club.

Mary Chun Neuhoff, everyone should have a conductor for a friend just to drop into sessions and lend a pair of technical ears and helpful pointers.

My parents taught me hard work and a sense of humor. I've needed every bit of both.

My sister has been playing old tapes, as though they were golden hits, for her husband and daughters on the car stereo, a captive audience. She's also dressed me for shows and photo shoots with handmade clothes.

All of the musicians participated with complete pride in their works, contouring and writing their own parts with my wishes in mind. My wish for them is that they always be happy with and proud of their music. To all of the above, my family, friends, colleagues, and students; this collection is for you because you participated or waited patiently.

Your Hybrid Songbird,
Ava Victoria
